We stayed one night in a Junior Suite at Monolith Tower, the hotel at Spa Resort Hawaiians — two adults and our 5-year-old son. Spa Resort Hawaiians is a large hot-spring resort with an indoor water park in Iwaki, Fukushima, and a classic family getaway for people living around Tokyo. Our plan was a special “Hawaiian stay” package with the French Polynesian buffet for dinner, and we got there on the shuttle bus from Yokohama Station.
The room was spacious and comfortable (the hotel pushed the beds together for us), and the seafood at the buffet was excellent. There were also a few things that bothered me, like dust and stains on the sofa, so I’ll be honest about those too.

Is it a good fit for your child’s age?
Babies and toddlers
The hotel lends baby items for free, including bed guards and step stools for kids. Quantities are limited, so it’s best to contact the front desk early.
The bathroom is roomy, so it’s easy to sit your little one down and wash them.
Preschoolers
The chocolate at the buffet was a huge hit with the kids. You can keep using the loungewear and towels after check-out, so you can play at Spa Resort Hawaiians right up until your bus home.
The shuttle bus stops for a break every hour, so even a child on their first long bus ride can manage.

Access: shuttle bus from Yokohama Station
We took the hotel’s shuttle bus, which is free for hotel guests. When booking, write in the notes field which station you’d like to board at, and they’ll arrange it. We boarded at Yokohama Station.
I was worried because it was our son’s first long bus ride, but the bus stops at a highway service area (a rest stop with restrooms and food) every hour, so it wasn’t as tough as I expected.
Check-in and check-out

Near the elevators by the entrance, there’s a board listing the opening hours of each facility. It’s handy to check it here first.
You can’t request late check-out when booking. If you’d like it, ask at check-in on the day or call the front desk from your room. The available time depends on how busy the hotel is.
The room: Junior Suite

There are four beds in total, two on each side as you face the door. We had requested it in advance, so they pushed each pair together against the wall, which was very comfortable. There’s plenty of space, too.

A door separates the bedroom from the dining area, so you can put your child to bed first and the adults can relax.
That said, the dust in the room bothered me a little. The windows open slightly, so I’d recommend airing out the room when you arrive. The sofa is large, but it’s fabric, and the wear and old stains were a bit noticeable.

The loungewear and bags are right by the room entrance, so they’re easy to find. You can keep using the loungewear, towels and bags after check-out — just play at Spa Resort Hawaiians and return them before getting on the bus home.
Bathroom, washbasin and toiletries

The bathroom is spacious and clean, so I didn’t mind sitting my son down to wash him. In Japanese-style bathrooms you wash outside the tub, and there was plenty of room for that. The shower pressure felt a little weak, but acceptable for the 10th floor.

There’s no step stool for kids at the washbasin, so ask to borrow one if you need it. The hair dryer was a ReFa.

There are two lines of toiletries, which makes it fun to choose. Both are Japanese brands (DHC and Kracie), which felt reassuring.

Everything from makeup remover and cleanser to body milk is provided in the room (Kracie and POLA), which I really appreciated.
Free baby item rental

For families with little ones, baby items are lent for free. Quantities are limited, so contact the front desk early for anything you need.
Public bath, shop and facilities
The large public bath in the hotel (a Japanese communal bath, separated by gender — you bathe without swimwear) opened at 2 p.m. on our stay, so we could take a relaxing soak after the pool. It’s spacious and, compared with the main Spa Resort Hawaiians area, there was no stress from crowds at all.

The basement shop sells clothes, swim rings, beach sandals and more, so you’re covered even if you forget something.
Note that the lockers at Spa Resort Hawaiians take coins only — no bills or cards — so bring plenty of coins.
Dinner and breakfast buffet

The buffet was delicious — the seafood was especially wonderful! Our son loved it so much he threw his arms up in joy. He and the other kids were thrilled with the chocolate buffet, and when we asked, the staff refilled the chocolate right away.
Breakfast had a slightly smaller selection.
Summary
- The shuttle bus from Yokohama Station stops every hour, so even a first long bus ride was fine
- The Junior Suite is spacious, the beds can be pushed together, and a door separates the bedroom — very comfortable with kids
- The dinner buffet has superb seafood, and kids love the chocolate buffet
- Dust and sofa stains were a little noticeable, so air out the room when you arrive
Being able to use the loungewear and towels after check-out, so you can play at Spa Resort Hawaiians until the very end, is another big plus. With an uncrowded public bath too, this is a hotel I’d recommend for enjoying Spa Resort Hawaiians with kids.
