During spring break in March 2026, my 5-year-old son and I spent a night at Hilton Odawara Resort & Spa, just the two of us. With a pool, bowling and even karaoke all inside the hotel, it’s a place where kids can play no matter the weather.
In this review I focus on the facilities we actually used with a child and what I wish I’d known before booking — the kind of details that are hard to get from reviews alone, with plenty of photos.

|---|---|---|
| Beds | Good | The twin beds can be pushed together (request in advance) |
| Lounging space | Good | A raised wooden-floor nook with cushions by the window |
| In-room bath | Watch out | Unit bath. Kids tend to play with the sliding glass panel |
| Pool | Excellent | Free arm floats (kids up to 130 cm), air pumps. Swimwear rental and swim diapers for sale |
| Indoor activities | Excellent | Bowling (with a kids’ ramp), karaoke, game corner. Friendly staff |
| Laundry | Good | Free detergent provided |
| Breakfast & dinner (buffet) | Watch out | Food is just OK. Tables are close together |
| Lunch (1F lounge) | Watch out | Delicious, but slow to arrive on busy days, and some cakes sold out |
| Access to the station | Good | Shuttle bus both ways. Walking takes about 40 min, steep, no restrooms |
Is it a good fit for your child’s age? (my impressions)
- Ages 0–3: I didn’t check whether cribs are available. Swim diapers are sold at the pool. The walk from the station has many steep slopes and is tough with a stroller, so I recommend coming by car or taking the shuttle bus from Nebukawa Station
- Ages 4–6: I think this is the age that will enjoy it most. The pool and bowling kept us busy all day

Check-in: grab your swimsuit and head to the pool first

On check-in day, you can leave everything except your swimsuit with the hotel. You don’t have to wait until the room is ready — you can go straight to the pool, which was a lifesaver for a child who wanted to play right away.
Turn right after the entrance and you’ll see a “Bade & Sports Information” sign; the main reception desk is just past it.

The room: Superior Twin (ocean view)

In the Superior Twin and Japanese-Western style rooms, the beds can be pushed together. If you want to sleep next to your child, I recommend requesting it in advance by email or similar.
The room is compact, but we could still relax in the space next to the beds. The floor is wood, which feels clean, so I didn’t mind my son sitting on the floor.

Balcony: saying hello to the neighbors

From the balcony you can see the sea and the garden. You can easily hear the people next door, so if you step out at the same time, you’ll end up saying hello — my son greeted the two young women next to us. Children’s voices carry, so it’s worth being a little careful at night and early in the morning.
Bathroom: handy for a quick wash of your child

We didn’t use the in-room unit bath this time. As far as I remember, the shampoo and so on were the same as in the public baths, so there may not be much reason to bathe here.
It isn’t large, but it’s handy when you just want to give your child a quick wash. However, kids get curious about the sliding glass panel, so watch out for little fingers.

Pool: well stocked for families with kids

The pool was the highlight of this hotel for us. It was fairly busy during spring break, but these three things made it great for families:
- Free arm floats to borrow (for kids up to 130 cm tall, one set per child)
- Air pumps for inflatables (electric and manual; floats up to 1 m)
- The door to the outdoor area was open, so we could enjoy the outside area too

Forgot your swimsuit or float? You can get them there
The pool reception had a list of items for sale and rent. Even if you forget swimwear or goggles, you can get them on site, which also helps if you want to pack light (prices as of my stay, tax included).
- For sale: goggles JPY 1,800 / 2,200, swim rings JPY 1,900 / 2,200, swim diapers JPY 500
- For rent: swimsuit JPY 1,100, rash guard JPY 1,100, swim cap JPY 200, arm floats free
- Drinks: water JPY 200, juice / sports drink / tea JPY 250
Rentals must be returned each day. The small swim ring is for ages 3 and up; the large size was sold out when we visited.

There’s also a fountain area that’s a bit like a waterfall shower, but my son found the water pressure painful and didn’t like it. It may be too strong for little ones.

Indoor activities: perfect for a first bowling game
The hotel has bowling, karaoke and a small game center. The bowling alley has a ramp for kids, so it was an easy place for a first try.
There were staff at the game center and bowling area, and they were friendly. The space was just the right size and brightness for letting kids play, so I felt at ease.

Laundry: free detergent
The laundry room has detergent you can use for free. You can wash wet swimsuits and towels the same day, which is handy for longer stays or packing light.

Meals: buffet for breakfast and dinner, lunch at the 1F lounge
Breakfast and dinner: buffet restaurant
Breakfast was the buffet included in our plan, and for dinner I booked the same buffet restaurant through the official website. The food was just OK.
What bothered me was that the tables are close together. Getting to the food took a little care, so when your child is carrying a plate, watch out for bumping into others.
Lunch: the 1F lounge is delicious, but allow plenty of time
On check-out day we had lunch at the lounge on the first floor. The food was really good.
However, it took a long time for our food to arrive. It was a busy spring-break day, but if you have a fixed train to catch, it could be tight.
Also, even though it wasn’t that late, some cakes were sold out. If your child has their heart set on something, ask before ordering.

Access: shuttle bus from Nebukawa Station, or about 40 minutes on foot
On the way there, we took the shuttle bus from Nebukawa Station to the hotel.
On the way back, we walked to the station using Google Maps, and it took about 40 minutes. It’s walkable in good weather, but there are many steep slopes, so it’s tough with a stroller.

There are vending machines along the way, but I didn’t see any restrooms. If you’re walking with kids, have everyone use the restroom before leaving the hotel. The shuttle bus runs on the way back too, so it’s the safer choice with little ones or lots of luggage.

Summary: a hotel we’d happily return to with kids
There were a few downsides — the painful fountain and the slow lunch — but overall it’s a hotel I’d stay at again, for these four reasons:
- Easy to reach from the Tokyo area, with a shuttle bus from Nebukawa Station
- A practical room: wooden floors feel clean, and the beds can be pushed together, so sleeping with your child is stress-free
- Can be affordable with good timing: check how prices change as your dates get closer. This time I booked my son at the adult rate as 2 adults, for about JPY 65,000
- Plenty for kids to do indoors: besides the pool, the bowling alley and game center have friendly staff and are just the right size and brightness
Allow plenty of time for lunch, and if you want the beds pushed together, don’t forget to request it in advance.
